Althea H. (Hunsicker) Handwerk, joined her husband, David, in heaven on March 1, 2018. She celebrated her 102nd birthday last October with her family and friends at Cedarbrook. Her passing was quiet and gentle.
Althea was born in Lehighton, the fifth and last child of James and Cora (Kuhns) Hunsicker. She married David Handwerk in 1941, lived briefly in Center Valley and then built their only home in Whitehall. There they raised a family, daughter, Diane S. Handwerk of Zionsville, and a son, Dixon D. and wife Gemma of Chester, VA. Along with her children, she is survived by two grandchildren, Jaime Handwerk-Burlock and her husband Keith and their children, Emily and Sydney, and Dixon's son Joel. She was predeceased by sisters, Arlene, Margie, brothers, LeRoy, and Clarence.
Althea loved her roses in the garden, crafting ceramics and sewing. She was an avid pinochle player and enjoyed playing throughout her life. She was very active in her community and a life member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall., where she volunteered for their social ministry. She was a charter member of the Whitehall Women's Club, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and at the election polls. She was employed at Wolf's Orchard, and Lehrman's Patio Shop.
