Alverta M. Kern

Alverta M. (Steigerwalt) Kern, 83, died peacefully, Saturday afternoon, October 29, 2016, at Summit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Kern, Sr. who passed in 1998. Born in Ashfield, East Penn Township, she was a daughter of the late Elias F., Sr. and Sadie (Schnell) Steigerwalt.
Alverta was employed as a mill worker for many years for the former Scotty's Fashions, Little Gap, and the former Stanley Vit-Mar Mill, Danielsville. She was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cherryville. She was a member of the I.L.G.W.U., East Penn Rod and Gun Club, and the Danielsville Democratic Club.
Survivors: Son, Robert A., Jr. and wife Diane of Kempton. Step-granddaughters, Ginger, Marlo, and Heather. 6 great-grandchildren, Kristen, Bradley, Kerissa, Dustin, Matthew, and Mason. Brothers, Russell of Walnutport, Allen and wife Rose of Penn Forest Township, Burdell and wife Florence of Bowmanstown. Son-in-law, Kenneth K. Harry of Allentown. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter, Anne Louise Harry in 2010, sisters, Emma Shaffer, Cora Rex, Anna Musselman, Ellen Labenburg-Angstead, brothers, Frederick, James, Elias Jr., Myles, and Norman.
Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2016, Hope Lutheran Church, PO Box 1030-4131 Lehigh Drive, Cherryville, PA 18035. Call, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Interment is at New Hope Cemetery, Route 946, Rockville, Moore Township.
