Andrew S. Babinchak, Jr., 76, of the Palmer House, Palmerton, Pennsylvania, died Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2019, at ManorCare Health Services, West Reading, Berks County. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Andrew S., Sr. and Anna (Redash) Babinchak.
Andrew was formerly employed as historian/curator of The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, before retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton. A 1960 graduate of St. Gabriel's High School, Hazleton, he later graduated from Duquesne University in 1964, Pittsburg. An Army veteran, Vietnam Era, Andrew served his country with honor, achieving the rank of SP5 (T), as a medical corpsman, and Chaplains Assistant.
Survivors: Sister, Catherine wife of Gene Schleicher of Lehighton. Brothers, Stephen and wife Betty Babinchak of York, John Babinchak of Mechanicsburg. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by sister, Elaine Rehrig, and a brother, Michael.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071. Call, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2019 and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.
