Andrew J. Benson, 91 of Bethlehem, formerly of Indiana, died on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services II in Bethlehem. Born December 12, 1926 in Pampa, Texas, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Lillie (Baysinger) Benson. He was married on August 5, 1963 to Lois (Sarver) Benson who passed away just hours after he did.
He worked as an electronic technician at the Crane Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, Indiana for 19 years before retiring in 1984. Prior to that he worked at the Edwards Air Force Base in California. Andrew honorably served in the US Army, first in Korea followed by serving in the constabulary in post WWII Germany from 1945 to 1954. He was a member of Life Church, Bloomington, Indiana. He was a former Sunday School Teacher, coin collector, and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was a member of the American Legion, Bloomington Indiana. He was also interested in miniature doll houses and trains.
Surviving are daughter, Kathleen M. wife of Eric Overholt of Bath, PA, sons, Steven Benson of New Mexico and Jon K. Benson of Bloomington, IN, brothers, James E. and wife Patty Benson of Terre Haute, IN and Raymond Benson of Idaho, sisters, Mary Lee Sanquenetti of Terre Haute, IN, Shirley A. Kelsheimer of Shepherdsville, IN and Wanda F. Carty of Clindon, IN; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by son, Mike Benson, daughter, Patricia Susan Rinehart, brother, Robert Perry Benson, sister, Linda Lou Gates.
Funeral services for both he and his wife will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Grace Community Church, 1290 Minesite Road, Allentown, Pennsylvania. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Philadelphia in care of the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067.
