Carl Clayton Reimer, 94 of Allentown, PA formerly of Bath, PA, died on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at his home in Luther Crest Campus. Born February 14, 1924 in Bath, PA, he was the third of Clayton S. and Mabel A. (Landes) Reimer's six sons. He was the husband of Elizabeth Miltenberger Reimer for 68 and one-half years. They had resided at Luther Crest in South Whitehall Township since Oct of 2006.  They had previously resided in S. Whitehall Township, PA, Lake Naomi, PA, Wilmington, DE, Kennett Square, PA, Hixson, TN, Richmond, VA, Signal Mountain, TN, Camden, SC, Waynesboro, VA, Syracuse and Utica, NY. Since Elizabeth's passing, Carl and Lelia Ellenberger have been covenant partners at Luther Crest.
Carl was educated in Bath's Wolfe school and then later in Northampton High School.  He attended Muhlenberg College on a football scholarship starting in September, 1941. He enlisted in the US Army in Dec 1942 and, following basic infantry training at North Camp Hood, TX and a semester of ASTP  was assigned  to the 84 th INF DIV in Camp Claiborne, LA. His Division began it's fighting in November 1944 in the Siegfried Line, later fought in THE BULGE, and ended fighting in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. His unit stopped fighting on the west bank of the Elbe river where they were joined by Cossacks from the Russian army. Carl received the Bronze Star Medal for bravery in action as a Rifleman and was honorably discharged as S/Sgt at Indiantown Ga,PA on Jan 24, 1946. Shortly after returning home to Allentown from the war Carl and Elizabeth Miltenberger became engaged and were married on June 22, 1946. Carl resumed study at 'Berg in March and later that year, as a Senior Carl played one final season of football at 'Berg. This was the team, coached by Floyd Ben Schwartzwalder, that ended the regular season with a 9 W/ 1L record and later defeated St. Bonaventure in the Tobacco Bowl game played in Lexington, KY. Carl graduated from Muhlenberg College in June of 1947 receiving a B.S. degree. Carl and Elizabeth's first child, Cynthia Claire was born two months later.  Next Carl joined the faculty of Utica College of Syracuse University where he served as Instructor in Math and Chemistry. Then   the family moved to Syracuse University where Carl started a four-year graduate study in Chemistry.  Their second daughter, Donna Lynn, was born in Syracuse. Carl received  his PhD in July of 1953 and then  joined the du Pont Company  in Waynesboro, VA . Son Jeffrey was born there in 1955. Subsequently Carl was assigned a number of different positions in SC, TN, and VA before returning to the Company's Chattanooga Nylon plant as Plant Manager. After almost three years Carl was transferred to Wilmington, DE where he served in a variety of staff assignments.  Carl retired at age sixty at which time he and Elizabeth moved to their Pocono Mountain retreat, "Woods Harbor" in Lake Naomi. Carl's interests over the years centered around family, church and work. At Luther Crest,  Carl served for five years on the Residents Association's Executive Committee and that service included a term as President.  Carl   enjoyed singing in the Luther Crest Chorus, helping to start a weekly Hymn Sing activity and- most of all- singing with THE LC FOUR, a  men's quartet that sang many concerts at Luther Crest and elsewhere around the Lehigh Valley. Carl's other interests included traveling, bird watching, fishing and the study of Pennsylvania German literature.

Carl was predeceased by each of his five brothers: Leon George, Dr. Earl Samuel, Richard Henry, Daniel Sherwood and Paul Edward. He is survived by his daughter  Cynthia Claire Hines, MD,  and her husband William R Hines, Ozone ,AR,  his daughter Donna Lynn Robinson, Woodstock, VA, and his son Jeffrey Carl Reimer and his wife Jody , Zionsville, IN.  In addition he is survived by six grandchildren : Rebecca Amanda, Jennifer Lynn,  Elizabeth Catherine, MD,  Lindsay Elizabeth, Tyler Clayton and Mark William and two greatgrandchildren: Alex James and Parker James.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - Kreidersville, 1335 Old Carriage Road Northampton, PA 18067 with the Rev. Gary L. Walbert officiating. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Zion Stone Old Graveyard, Allen Twsp., PA. Arrangements are under the care of Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA 18067.
