Carol E. Zalinger

Carol E. Zalinger, 78, of Hanover, NH, formerly of Middletown, NY and Port Jervis, NY, passed away on Friday December 2, 2022, at Moravian Hall Square in Nazareth, PA.

She was the wife of the late Philip H. Zalinger, Sr. with whom she spent 32 happy years of marriage.

Born December 25, 1943, in Concordia, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Schau-Aughton. She was a member of the Class of 1961 at Port Jervis Senior High school. Carol had an easy, welcoming way about her that put others at ease, whether she was in the company of friends or saying hello to someone for the first time.

She led her life with a caring heart, especially in her career as a Registered Nurse at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH and Horton Memorial Hospital, Middletown, NY for 45 years before retiring. She also volunteered with hospice and palliative care at Dartmouth Hitchcock.

In addition to helping others, Carol found the most joy in spending time with her family and her three dogs, Molly, Hannah, and Brady. Saying she adored her grandchildren would be an understatement; Carol thoroughly enjoyed every minute of her visits with them. An ardent traveler, Truro, Cape Cod was among her favorite destinations. She shared her love of music with many by singing in the choir at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where she was also a member.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia L. DiLauro and her husband Garvis of Clinton, NY; her son Andrew J. Doulé and his wife Vicki of Nazareth, PA; six grandchildren, Ben, Vanessa, Grace, Abigail, Josh, and Quinn; step-son Philip H. Zalinger, Jr. and wife Ann Kennard Zalinger  of Montpelier, VT; step-daughter Kathy Pace of Chalfont, PA; sister, Valerie Sandler and her husband Michael of Huntersville, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Pine Knoll Cemetery, Hanover, New Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or St. Luke's Hospice in care of the Bartholomew Schisler Funeral Home, 211 E. Center Street, Nazareth, PA 18064.
