Dale E. Newhart

Dale E. Newhart, 91 of Bethlehem, PA. formerly of Treichlers died Friday, February 17, 2017, at Lehigh Valley
Hospital - Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem, PA. Born August 4, 1925 in Treichlers, PA., the youngest son of the late
Elvin G. and Stella M. (Bossard) Newhart. He was the husband of the late Phoebe Lillian (Simpson) Newhart. They
were married for 53 years at the time of her death on Aug. 12, 1999.

Dale was a 1943 graduate of Northampton High School and following graduation served in the Army Air Corps
during World War II at Johnston Island as a radio-telephone operator. Following the war, he received a degree in
Business Administration for Muhlenberg college in 1949. He was then employed at the Allentown State hospital for
more than 39 years where he served in various capacities in Accounting, Business Administration, and eventually as
Superintendent of the Hospital. He received accolades from the state for his exemplary service including citations of
recognition by the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives and Senate. He was a member of the Association
of Mental Health Administrators, and the American Academy of Mental Health Administrators. In 1990, following his
retirement from the Allentown State Hospital , he served at the Lutheran Home at Topton for 7 years as the Vice
President of Administration.

Dale's civic activities included, former chairman of the Lehigh Township Planning Commission, former chairman of
the Lehigh Township Zoning Hearing Board, former chairman of the Treichlers Water Authority, member of the
Lehigh Township Municipal Authority, and Treasurer of the Indianland Cemetery Association for more than 40 years.
Dale was also a devoted member and leader within the Lutheran Church. He was instrumental in the formation of
Hope Lutheran Church in Cherryville in 1974. following the merger of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Indianland and
Christ Little Moore. He served on several church councils and was on the executive board of the Northeastern
Pennsylvania Synod for six years. He was also Treasurer of Synod from 1997 to 2003.

He is survived by sons, Dennis D. Newhart and wife Patricia of Bethlehem and their children Allison and Stephanie;
Ronald E. Newhart and wife Patsy of Lebanon, PA and their children James, Meredith, and Samuel; Donald W.
Newhart of Bellfonte, PA; daughter, Nancy L. wife of Dennis Biechy of Whitehall, PA and their children Katie and
Scott. Along with 8 Great-Grand children.

A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at Hope Lutheran Church - Cherryville,
4131 Lehigh Dr. Cherryville, PA. 18035 with the Rev. Jami L. Possinger officiating. The family will receive friends
from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the services in the church. Interment with Honors will follow in Indianland
Cemetery Association, Cherryville, PA. Arrangements are under the care of Schisler Funeral Home, 2119
Washington Ave. Northampton, PA. 18067.
