Deacon William "Bill" P. Pitts, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, February 22, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, Pennsylvania, with his son and friends by his side. He was the husband of the late Irene M. (Machalec) Pitts, who passed in 2005, for 48 years. Born July 16, 1935, in Danielsville, he was a son of the late John and Catherine (Mayoryk) Pitts.
Bill graduated from Palmerton High School in 1953, and served his country honorably in the Army from 1958 to 1960. He was employed at the former Lehigh Valley Dairy for 10 years, after which time he became a Nationwide Insurance Agent in Palmerton, for 35 years. He resided with his wife Irene in Palmerton for 40 years, and then moved to Allentown in 1998.
On October 12, 1982, Bill was Ordained a Permanent Deacon in the first class of Deacons for the Diocese of Allentown. He was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish, Palmerton, and served there for over 30 years.
Survivors: Son, Jon Pitts, and granddaughters, Aerin, and Cameron, all of Denver, CO. Several nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Anne Stewart, and Dorothy Smith, and, brothers, Michael, Stephen, Theodore, and Daniel.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071. Call, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Friday at Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071, and 9:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday in the church.
