Delbert L. Eckhart

Delbert L. Eckhart , 91, formerly of Walnut Drive, Palmerton, Towamensing Twp., PA, died peacefully early Wednesday morning at Cornerstone Assisted Living, Werley's Corner, Weisenberg Twp.  He was the husband of the late Gayle F. (Remaly) Eckhart who passed in 2016.  Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Fred and Hilda (Eckhart) Eckhart.

Delbert was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Butz Lumber Co., Palmerton, for over 31 years, retiring in 1994.  A member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bowmanstown, he served on the church council and sang with the choir.  He was a member of the former Little Gap Grange #1882, Lower Towamensing Twp.  Delbert enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and photography.  He was a 1950 graduate of the Palmerton High School, later graduating from Penn State University with a degree in animal husbandry.  He served in the Navy, Peacetime, and achieved the rank of LT.

Survivors: Daughter, Heather A. wife of Gregory Bendokus of Lansford.  Sister, Florence Silliman of Bethlehem.  Brother, Paul of FL.  Numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sister, Ellamae Moyer, and brothers, Richard, and Franklin.

Services: Memorial Services, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 519 Hamilton Street, Bowmanstown, PA 18030.  Call, 10:00-11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the church.  Interment with Military Honors, Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, Trachsville.  Arrangements, Campton Funeral Home, Palmerton.  Online Condolences: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
