Derek Anthony Oliver

Derek Anthony Oliver , 71 of East Stroudsburg passed away September 3, 2023, at LVHN Cedar Crest.  He was born December 27, 1951, in Phillipsburg, NJ. He was the son of the late Mildred O. Reed.  He was husband to Margaret J. Oliver (Burkhard) whom he loved with all his heart and shared 52 years of marriage.  He was so proud to say it would be 53 years of marriage on October 3, 2023.

Derek was a massage therapist for the past 30 years as well as a massage therapy instructor.   He is also fondly remembered by many as a corrections officer at Monroe County Correctional Facility.  He was a faithful member of the Stroudsburg Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where he served as an elder and a pioneer.

Derek will be remembered for his warm smile and love for people.  He could talk to anyone and always find a way to relate.  He had friends in every walk of life and has affected people's hearts, from prisoners to professionals.  He loved studying the Bible and teaching it to people.  He also loved music and he especially loved to sing.  You could hear his amazing booming voice singing at home, at the Kingdom Hall, at any other event where he could, and even to his chickens.

Along with his wife Margaret, he is survived by his children, Nina Marano of Texas, Simon Oliver and significant other Alicia of Oregon, Jotham Oliver and wife Julie of Saylorsburg, Caleb Oliver and wife Jana of Northampton, and Ephraim Oliver of Palmerton.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kyra, Kolby, Anthony, Zavaya, Cyrus, and Kayden.  And by his siblings Charles Reed, Michael Reed, Matthew Reed, Elizabeth Marshall and Olga Reed.  He is predeceased by his brother George Reed.

Memorial Services will be held September 16, 2023 at 2:00pm at Poconos Park at the  Lake House, 265 Tom Ridge Drive, Bushkill, PA 18324. Please contact the family to join via Zoom.

Donations can be made in his memory to the Stroudsburg Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses or the Amyloidosis Foundation in care of Schisler Funeral Homes.
