Doris "Dottie" A. Smida, 98, formerly of Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, died Easter Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2016, at Summit Nursing and Rehab Center, Lehighton. She was the wife of the late John J. Smida who passed in 1973. Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Ephraim and Sannia (Zellner) Smith.
Dottie worked as a floor lady for the former Blue Ridge Sportswear Co., Palmerton, for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of I.L.G.W.U., and First United Church of Christ, Palmerton, where she volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, and Girl Scout Leader. A 1935 graduate of the Lehighton High School, Dottie was an over 50 year consecutive voter, poll volunteer, and former Republican Committee Person. Her daughters would like to thank the staff of the Summit Facility for the wonderful care they provided her.
Survivors: daughters, Janet D. wife of Glenn Minnich of Slatington; Nancy L. wife of Peter J. Delich, Jr. of North Myrtle Beach, SC. 2 nieces, nephew. She was predeceased by infant daughter, Anna Jane in 1940, and 12 siblings.
