Dorothy B. Hess

Dorothy Caroline Becker Hess, 92, formerly of Northampton, PA, died Thursday, January 12, 2023, peacefully at home in Newport News, Virginia. Dorothy, also known as "Dot", was the wife of the late Jerome Gould Hess, who passed away in 2011. Born May 12, 1930 in Kreidersville, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Rose (Petko) Becker.

Dot was employed by Acme Markets for over 35 years, retiring in 1989. Dot and Jerry built and owned the Hillside Miniature Golf Course in 1959. She was a longtime volunteer at the Allen Township Fire Company, as well as Musikfest. Dot loved gardening, traveling, and spreading joy each year with her famous hand painted cutout cookies. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, and would have become a great-grandma to a baby boy in the spring.

Survivors: She is survived by her daughter, Becky Ann Plarr, of Newport News, VA; grandson, Maxwell J. Plarr and wife, Lexy of Hampton, VA; sister, Kathleen, wife of Dennis Petrie, of Kutztown, PA; and many other loving family members and friends. She was predeceased by son-in-law, Steven; sister, Josephine Wieand; brothers, Stanley and Richard Becker.

Services: The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 AM funeral service, all on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA . Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Northampton.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the restoration of the Hillside Miniature Golf Course c/o the funeral home.
