Evelyn R. Plechavy

Evelyn R. (Wehr) Plechavy , 98, of Sei Pike Lane, Lehighton, Towamensing Twp., PA, died peacefully Thursday evening, August 15, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem.  She was the wife of the late Joseph Plechavy, Jr., who passed in 2003.  Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late Leighton E. and Ruth H. (Hawk) Wehr.

Evelyn was employed as a Registered Nurse by the former Palmerton Hospital for many years.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton, where she sang on the church choir.  She was a 1943 graduate of the Summit Hill High School, later graduating from the Palmerton Hospital School of Nursing. With her love of music, Evelyn enjoyed participating in the Jim Thorpe Holiday Homecoming Bach Handel Chorus, and the Bicentennial Chorus.  She enjoyed volunteering for the Palmerton Hospital Auxiliary, the Palmerton Hospital Nearly New Shop, and Carbon County's Family Promise Program.

Survivors: Daughter, Jamie Smith of Allentown.  Son, Joseph J., III, and wife Victoria with whom she resided.  4 grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, Jon, and Melissa.  3 great-grandchildren, Cory, Mahlya, and Nora.  1 great-great-grandson, Leon.  Brother, Thomas and wife Gwen Wehr of Orwigsburg.  Numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by brothers, Russell, Frank, Robert, James, Donald, and John.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.  Call, 9:00a.m.-10:00a.m. Friday in the church.  Interment, Parish's New Cemetery, Stoney Ridge Road, Palmerton.  Arrangements, Campton Funeral Home, Palmerton.  Online Condolences: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
