Frank S. Kovacs, age 77 of Northampton, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg Campus in Bethlehem, PA with his family by his side.
Born August 15, 1941 in Northampton, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Jacob) Kovacs. On June 12, 1965 he married the love of his life, Judith A. (Gaugler) Kovacs. They were married for nearly 39 years until her death in 2004.
Frank was a 1959 Central Catholic graduate who continued on earning his BS in Education from Kutztown State College in 1963. He later earned his master's degree in Education from Lehigh University in 1975. Frank started his first year of teaching in 1963 for the Northampton Area Senior High School as a secondary Geography teacher. He continued teaching Geography & Earth Science until 1974 when he became Assistant Principal of NASHS, finishing out his career as Principal of the Northampton Area Senior High School until retiring in 1998.
Throughout his life, Frank volunteered his time to many causes including Northampton Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corp, various High School Clubs, assisted with making pierogies at St. Michael RC Church, the Bereavement Committee at Queenship of Mary RC Church, leading the rosary prayers at Sacred Heart Assisted Living, assisting Northampton County Seniors with Medicare enrollment.
He was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of police, a member of the Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of Historical Society, former member and past President of the former Northampton Rotary Club until its disbandment and member of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Surviving are his daughter, Michele Wolgamuth of Northampton, children Megan (Tyler Dieter) and Justin (Alejandra) and great-grandchildren Jaxton, Alia, Valerie and Nicole; daughter, Mary (Scott Gunter) of Bradford, PA and children Jonah, Benjamin, Lily and Kate; son Frank C. Kovacs (Marcela) of La Vista, NE and children Isabella and Xavier.
Frank passed on to his children and grandchildren his love of dogs, his love of music and his love of learning. He put the needs of his family and friends above himself, always ready to help someone. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10am at the Queenship of Mary Catholic Church 1324 Newport Ave. Northampton, PA 18067. The family will receive friends from 9am to 10am prior to Mass at the church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Northampton, PA. Schisler Funeral Home 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Queenship of Mary RC Church Memorial Fund c/o the Funeral Home.
