Dr. Franklin H. Ewald
, 71 of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at his home in Lehighton. Born April 20, 1946 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Rev. Louis Ewald and Emeline (Bucher) Ewald. He was the husband of Joan E. (Laky) Ewald with whom he shared 48 years of marriage last June 29, 2016.
Dr. Ewald was a self-employed Orthodontist in Franklin Township, Carbon County, PA serving the community for 30 years before retiring in 2013. A 1964 graduate of Pen Argyl High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University graduating Magnum Cum Laude in 1968. He continued his education and earned his Masters in Dentistry from Temple University in 1972. He then joined the Navy Dental Corp. in 1972 until his discharge as a Lt. Commander in 1980. After the military he went back to school from 1980-1983 at Temple University and earned his Masters of science degree specializing in Orthodontics. He was a former member of the Lehighton Lions Club, Life member of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, and Past President of the Panther Valley Dental Society.
Survivors: Surviving along with his wife Joan are; daughters, Dr. Lynda S. Ewald wife of Kevin Taylor of Lehighton, PA; Heidi L. Rivera of Passaic, NJ, brother, Dr. John Ewald and wife Deborah of Falmouth, MA; 2 grandsons: Lincoln and Arden. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Ewald.
Services: Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Campton Funeral Home, Inc., 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA. 18071.
