Fred J. "Blackie" Hurban, 87 of Northampton, PA, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home. Born September 12, 1930 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Matthew and Mary (Monceman) Hurban. He was the husband of Rose M. (Yurasits) Hurban with whom he shared 65 years of marriage this February 14, 2018.
Fred worked for the former Tarkett Mfg. of Hokendauqua for 34 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, Northampton, where he served as the custodian for 40 years and was a member of the Senior Choir for many years. He was also a Man of Malvern, a member of the 1st Ward Fire Co., Northampton and a long time member of the Northampton V.F.W. Post #4714. Fred served his country as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Surviving along with his wife Rose are, daughters, Joan M. Hurban of Northampton, Jane M. wife of Michael Hanichak of Chalfont, and Mary H. wife of Rey Millan of Northampton, 3 grandsons: Philip, Joshua, and Nicholas, a great grandson, Christian, a niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Emil and John.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, 22nd St. & Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067 followed by Mass at 2:00pm.
Interment with military honors will follow in Assumption B.V.M. Cemetery, Northampton, PA. Schisler Funeral Home, Northampton, PA. is in charge or arrangements.
