Gary Alan Hilbert, 65, of Northampton, died Friday, March 11, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband and father. He was married to Lynn (Johnson) Hilbert since August 17, 1974. Born in Fullerton, Whitehall Twp, he was a son of the late Elmer C. and Isabelle M. (Moyer) Hilbert.
Gary was a graduate of Whitehall High School. He was a merit scholar and graduated from Lafayette College with a Bachelor''s of Science in mechanical engineering. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. Gary continued his education at Lehigh University towards his master''s degree in electrical engineering. He was a state licensed engineer and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. From college he worked at PPL for 42 and a half years. He retired February 29, 2016 from PPL as a senior computer system analyst.
As a young adult, Gary enjoyed playing both softball and in a bowling league for PPL. He was a core member of the Northampton Area Food Bank where he served as treasurer for many years. He was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northampton, for 41 years. At Zion he served on many committees, church council, and was financial secretary. Gary shared his musical talent as a choir member for over 30 years. He was often found behind a computer monitor or a good science fiction novel. He pursued his passion of technology by developing his own computer business called Computer Helpkey. He was looking forward to spending more time expanding his business after retirement. His family would like to thank the staff at Whitehall Manor and Heartland Hospice for taking good care of Gary the past two years.
Survivors: wife, daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" D. wife of Barry Engler of Bethlehem, Megan C. wife of Kevin Justice, and Sarah F. wife of Peter Goode, all of Allentown. 5 grandchildren, Emilee Engler, Justin Smith, Catherine Engler, Madelyn Stettler, Cora Goode. Sister, Joanne Passaro of Walnutport. Brother, Donald and wife Kathy of Quakertown. Niece and nephews. He was predeceased by infant brother Wayne.
Services: 11:00 am Thursday, Zion Lutheran Church, 19th and Main Streets, Northampton, PA 18067. Call, 7-8:30 pm Wednesday. Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067 and 10-11:00 am Thursday in church. Interment, Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Airport Road, Hanover Twp.
