Geraldine F. (Eshleman) Meryweather, 96, died peacefully Wednesday morning, September 23, 2020, at Tall Pines in Belfast, Maine. Born in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Stella (Brown) Eshleman, and granddaughter of the late Dr. E. F. Eshleman.
Geraldine grew up in Tuckerton, NJ, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson Medical College Philadelphia, in 1947 as a Nurse Anesthetist. Her first employment was at Queens Hospital in Honolulu, HI, moving on to NJ, and PA. In 1950, she married Steen Meryweather, and they moved to Bangor, Maine, in 1954, where they had three children, Timothy, Rodney, and Katherine. Geraldine continued working at the three area hospitals, Eastern Maine General, St. Joseph's, and Dow AFB. She was active in the Junior League of Bangor. After her divorce in 1970, she moved to Plaistow, NH, and worked at Hale Hospital in Haverhill, MA, until her retirement.
Geraldine was an avid golfer, enjoyed wintering in Florida, and playing bridge. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) in NH, being Worthy Grand Matron of NH from 1992-1993. Geraldine especially loved her camp at Holbrook Pond in Holden, Maine, and spent summers there since 1966. The loons on the lake were her favorite.
Survivors: Geraldine is survived by her sister, Ann Davis of Panama City, FL. Son, Timothy Steen Meryweather and his wife Ellen of Perris, CA. Daughter, Katherine Meryweather Rinfret and husband Neil of Hampden, ME. 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Rodney Gerald Meryweather, sister, Elvira Eis, and a brother, Edwin Eshleman.
