Harvey H. Handwerk, 89 of Walnutport/Treichlers, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest in Allentown, PA. Born October 17, 1936, in Walnutport/Treichlers, PA. He was the son of the late Victor Handwork, Sr., and the late Ruth (Laub) Handwerk. Harvey was the loving husband of Althea (Hittner) Handwerk, sharing 66 years of marriage together.
Harvey was a graduate of Northampton Area High School, Class of 1954. He worked for Lehigh Valley Dairy Farms, and United Die Finishing for a few years. Then he was drafted into the Army, serving during the Cuban Crisis, earning the rank of SP-4 E-4 before being honorably discharged in 1963. Once returning home, he worked for United Die Finishing for a few years before attending trade school. Harvey would then go on to work for Western Electric/Lucent Tech for 33 years as a pipe fitter, retiring in 2002. Harvey's background in farming and his love for spending time in the garden lead to him being involved with 4-H. He was extremely talented at building, personally constructing his own beautiful home and garage. Harvey was a member of Hope Lutheran Church-Cherryville, the Walnutport American Legion, Indian Mountain Gun Club, Harmoney Grange, and Blue Mountain Fish and Game. He enjoyed traveling and camping with family, going as much as he could with Althea during retirement.
Surviving along with his wife, are daughters, Wanda Lobus and husband Micheal of Wind Gap, PA, June Herritt and husband Arthur of Jacksonville, NC, Cindy Weber of Walnutport, PA, Kim Strohl and husband George of Palmerton, PA and Ginger Frohnheiser and husband Todd of Palmerton, PA; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Harvey was predeceased by brothers Arthur, Louis, and Victor Handwerk Jr., and sisters Verna Smith, Ada Hines, Mildred Strohl, and Arlene George.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Schisler Funeral Home Northampton, PA. Also, from 10:00AM up until the time of service, the family will be receiving relatives and friends at Hope Lutheran Church.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday February 10, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church-Cherryville, 4131 Lehigh Drive Cherryville, PA, 18035. Interment will follow in Indianland Cemetery, Cherryville, PA.
Flowers may be sent or Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or the American Cancer Society, both care of the funeral home.
