The Rev. Henry K. Wohlgemuth
, 85, , formerly of Andreas, East Penn Township, Pennsylvania, died Friday morning, March 31, 2017, at Souderton Mennonite Home, Franconia Township, Montgomery County. He was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy A. (Kline) Wohlgemuth since May 28, 1955. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth L. (Zahn) Wohlgemuth.
Rev. Wohlgemuth was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg College, and a 1957 graduate of Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary. He continued his education earning a Master's Degree in social work from Catholic University of America, Washington DC. Rev. Wohlgemuth began his ministry at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg in 1959, later, continuing on to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1959 he became Executive Director of Lutheran Social Services, Eastern Region, Lancaster County, and then was the Executive Director of the Lutheran Children and Family Services, and US Government Refugee Services, transitioning to Tressler Lutheran Services of Central PA, from 1968 through 1981. From the early 1980's to the mid 1990's, he was the founder of and Executive Director of Lutheran Ministries of Georgia, specializing in group homes for medically fragile children (i.e., crack cocaine, HIV positive), and resettlement services for ex-prisoners, etc.
Rev. Wohlgemuth later became Pastor of Salem-Hetzel's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, continuing as Interim Pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church, Auburn, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Port Carbon, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, North Weissport, and finishing into retirement from Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield, PA.
Survivors:
Surviving in addition to his widow, Dorothy: Son, Kurt H. Wohlgemuth and wife Lisa G. (Przepierski) Wohlgemuth, of Phoenixville, Montgomery County. Daughter, Beth A. (Wohlgemuth) Schweiger wife of Theodore Schweiger, III, of Gilbertsville, Montgomery County. 4 Grandchildren, Ryan, Brennan, Liane, and Kasey. 3 great-grandchildren, Makayla, Bryn, and Silas. 2 cousins.
Services:
Memorial Service, Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at Dinkey Lutheran Church, PO Box 250, 1742 Dinkey Road, Ashfield, PA 18212. Call, 12:30-1:30pm at the Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Anthony P. Pagotto, along with Rev. Denton Kees, and Rev. Dana Beil. The Interment will be
