Irene J. Scherer

Irene J. (Vlossak) Scherer , 103, formerly of Columbia Avenue, Palmerton, PA, died peacefully early Monday morning, November 27, 2023, at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton.  She was the wife of the late Winston E. Scherer, who passed in 2003.  Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Frank, Sr., and Helen (Machalec) Vlossak.

Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton.  A 1938 graduate of the Palmerton High School, she later graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College.  Irene was a member of the Palmerton Concourse Club, the former Blue Ridge Country Club, Palmerton, and she volunteered on the board of the Palmerton Library for many years.

Survivors: Sons, Philip D. and wife Barbara of Palmerton, Christopher C. of Memphis, TN, and Dr. Peter W. and wife Toini of Media.  7 grandchildren.  3 great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sisters, Helen Suran, Gizella Sawka, and Peggy Sheeran, and brothers, Frank, Jr. and Johnny.
