Irene M. Shinsec

Irene M. (Mulvey) Lloyd Shinsec , 96, of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday evening, July 19, 2021, attended by family.  Irene was the wife of the late George Shinsec who died in 2005, and her first husband, Hazen Clifford Lloyd, Jr., who passed in 1994.  Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John I. and Irene (Kelland) Mulvey.

Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother, and received her professional diploma from St. Joseph's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, graduated from Indiana University of PA with a B.S. Ed and earned her M.S. Ed from Temple University.  Her love of people and medicine led her into a career as a nurse, nurse educator and administrator.  Her nursing experiences gained at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, Children's Hospital in Pittsburg, and Harmerville Rehabilitation Center as well as St. Margaret's Hospital, Pittsburg, PA, included positions in medical surgery, pediatrics, and rehabilitation.  Irene served as a nurse educator at Carbon County Vocation Technical School, and taught LPNs at LCCC for over 16 years.  She was always active in her community, serving on the PA League for Nursing, the Advisory Board of the Lehigh County Area Vo-Tech School, and the Board of Trustees of the Palmerton Hospital.  She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Lehigh Valley Association of Academic Women.  Irene volunteered at the Owl's Nest at the Palmerton Hospital, the Palmerton Historical Society, and was the director of Palmerton Meals on Wheels for years.  Her family fondly remembers her love of her garden and of playing challenging bridge rubbers in her various bridge clubs.

Survivors: Four daughters, Amy Lloyd Rippe of RI, Susan Rohrer (Jeffrey) of IL, Carol Lloyd of NJ, and Nancy Burchell (Steven) of OR.  Six grandchildren, Amy, Deirdre, Peter, Megan, Alison, and Laura. Many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son-in-law, Mark Rippe.

Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2021, Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.  Call, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2021 and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday at Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.
