James "Butchie" "Merc" Morris, Jr., 68, of Oak Drive, Lehighton, Mahoning Twp., PA, died early Tuesday morning, November 8, 2022, in his home. He was the husband of Pamela E. (Ryall) Morris since October 21, 1981. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late James, Sr. and Mrs. Kathleen J. (Sillers) Morris of Lehighton.
James was employed as a civil engineer by Navarro and Wright Consulting Engineers, Cumberland, PA. He worked in the same capacity for 40 years and was instrumental in projects such as Lehigh Tunnel, Washington Twp., Lehigh County, and E. Penn Twp., Carbon County, the Mansion House Hill Project, PA Route 209, Jim Thorpe, and the PA Route 903 Bridge, E. Jim Thorpe, to name a few. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Palmerton Fishing and Hunting Assoc. and the Lehighton Volunteer Fire Co. James was a 1972 graduate of the Lehighton High School, later graduating from Penn State University. An army veteran, he served stateside, peacetime, and achieved the rank of SP4 E4.
Survivors: Wife. Twin daughters, Amanda wife of Corey Jamison of Gainesville, FL, and Karoline wife of Rusty Hill of Jacksonville, NC. 3 granddaughters, Lily, Raylynn, and Briella. Sister, Cynthia wife of Victor Grosso of Lehighton. Nieces and nephews, Jamie Lynn Strohl wife of Joe Race of New Haven, CT, and Mickayla N. Grosso wife of Britton Heim of Danville, PA. 2 great-nephews.
