James R. Kates

James R. Kates , 78, of Lehighton, formerly of Cherryville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home.  Born January 15, 1943 in Cherryville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Laura (Lorah) Kates.  He and his wife Linda E. (Schlier) Kates were married on April 12, 1964.

He worked as a crane operator for the Bethlehem Steel Company, Bethlehem, for over thirty years before retiring.  He served honorably in the US Army.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Natalie Savage of Bethlehem, Lora Gould of Lehighton, Pamela Kates of Lehighton, and Valarie Miller of Lehighton.  Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a brother Charles Kates, and sisters, Elizabeth Kates and June Kickline.

Services: The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, 21, 2021 at the Miller Funeral Home, 137 Fairview Street, Lehighton, PA 18235.  Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
