James A. Matsko , 88, of Lower Middle Creek Road, Kunkletown, Polk Township, Monroe County, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, January 7, 2022, in his home, under the loving care of his wife and children.  He was the husband of Nancy A. (Woelfel) Matsko since June17, 1961.  Born in Oneida, East Union Township, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late John and Johanna (Maylath) Matsko.

He was a good, humble, and simple man who faithfully loved and served God, his family, and country.  James was employed by the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., (A&P Grocery) for over 40 years, missing only one day of work due to a snow storm.  An active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Brodheadsville, he served as an usher and participated in the slow pitch softball team for many years.  James was a 3rd Degree Knight, and member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7141.  An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed the Philadelphia Eagles, and Phillies, and college - Notre Dame and Penn State.  James was a graduate of Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, and later served his country with honor in the US Army, Korea Era, attaining the rank of PFC.

Survivors: Wife.  Daughters, Peri A. Marando and Nikol Matsko, both of Polk Township.  Son, James, Jr. and his wife Tricia Lu, of Towamensing Township.  Eight grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Thomas Jack, Johanna Lu, Natalie, Megan, and Luke.  Two sisters, Cecelia Matsko of Chula Vista, CA, and Joan, wife of Joseph Gerace of Northfield, NJ.  Several nieces and nephews.  He was also predeceased by two sisters, Marie Haber, and Eleanor Matsko, and two brothers, John, and Martin.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Route 209, Brodheadsville, followed by Military Honors.  Interment, Sacred Heart New Cemetery, Stoney Ridge Road, Palmerton.  Call, 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday in the church.  Reception to follow in McCawley Hall.  All are welcome.  Arrangements by Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.  Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com.
