James M. Scherer

James M. Scherer , 92, of The Lehighton High Rise, formerly of Bowmanstown, died peacefully Saturday evening, March 9, 2024, at the Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton.  He was the husband of Dorothy E. (Hettler) Scherer since June 1, 2002.  Born in Bowmanstown, he was a son of the late Jesse and Miriam (Grow) Scherer.

James was employed as a general laborer by the former New Jersey Zinc Co., Palmerton, for over 30 years.  Later, he worked as a driver for A&A Limousine Service, Northampton, for several years.  James was a member and former sexton of Christ Evangelical Free Church, Mahoning Twp.  He was a member, past president, and Melvin Jones Award recipient of the Bowmanstown-Parryville Lion Club, and life member of the Bowmanstown Vol. Fire Co.  James also served his country with honor in the PA Army National Guard, Lehighton Barracks.

Survivors: Wife.  Sons, James of Wilson, John and wife Lisa of Magnolia, TX, and Ken Fisher of Lehighton.  Daughter, Susan wife of Ray Clark of Monroe, OR.  8 grandchildren.  10 great-grandchildren.  Sister, Marie Haberman of Lehighton.  Several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy, Cassie, and brothers, Arnold, Robert, and "Lumm."
