Joan M. Brownell

Joan M. Brownell, 78 of Laurys Station, PA. passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice, Allentown, PA. Born January 27, 1943 in Allentown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Godfried Thomas and the late Minnie (Lauf) Thomas. She was married to Richard E. Brownell for 58 years, residing in Whitehall, PA prior to their retirement.

Joan graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1965 earning a Bachelors degree in Education. She furthered her education earning a Master's Degree in Education from Kutztown State College in 1970. Joan was last employed by the Northampton Area School District as a first grade teacher at Lehigh Elementary School for 15 years before retiring in 2002. Prior to this, she and her husband, Richard, co-owned and directed, Little People Day Care School, Allentown, PA from 1978 to 1985. Joan was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Whitehall-Egypt, PA. She served as a former Counselor at Camp Mosey Wood Girl Scout Camp, Lake Harmony, PA for many years, was a Certified Massage
Therapist, and a Reiki master. As a wife, mom, grandmother (Mama), teacher, artist, healer, traveler, friend, and more, she was always 100% herself, loved generously, and lived life to the fullest. There will never be another like her.

Surviving along with her husband Richard, are daughter, Susan B. Robinson and her husband, Wayne, of Hampton, NJ and daughter, Jayne E. Brownell of Oxford, OH, her sister, Shannon T. Delp and her husband, Richard of Gilbertsville, PA; and granddaughters; Elise and Emma Robinson.
Future celebration of life services to be announced at a later date. Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, PA. 18067 has been entrusted with her care.
