John Paul Halada, 98, formerly of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, died on Wednesday August 1, 2018, in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Halada.  He was the husband of Lois (Conover) Halada until her passing in July of 1958.

John Paul Halada was born on July 7, 1920, and grew up in Palmerton, with sisters Irene, Betty, Tina, and a brother, Joseph Junior.  He enlisted in the Army during World War II, and served his country honorably in the fight throughout Normandy.  He was captured by the Germans in 1944 and spent nine months as a prisoner of war in Stalag 7a, until escaping from a work farm in March 1945.  He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and several other citations, including the French Legion of Honor, which was awarded recently.  John attended Muhlenberg College, University of Miami, Florida, and Penn State, graduating in 1950.  In July 1952, he married fellow Penn State graduate Lois Conover, who passed away in March 1958 at a young age.  John was a great and loving father to the son and daughter Lois' passing left behind.  John took an executive position at the American Brake Shoe Company in 1953.  He continued to succeed to higher positions in other companies in the metal forging industry, working and living in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada.  In 1982, he retired from Federal Forge in Lansing, Michigan, and moved to Florida.  In retirement, he enjoyed golf and travel, and up to his last months was skilled in painting, and savvy at investing in the stock market.
