John S. Johnson , of Havre De Grace, Maryland, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Senator B. Hooper House, Forest Hill, MD. Born June 17, 1929 in Whitehall-Fullerton, PA, he was the son of the late William S. and Elizabeth (Woronak) Johnson, and husband of the late Bernice L. (Heintzelman) Johnson who passed away July 5, 2006.
John served honorably as a Sergeant 1st Class in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, serving stateside, during the Korean War. He was a Teamster Driver/Salesman for the former Penn Linen, Inc., Bethlehem, PA for 41 years before retiring in 1991. He served as former Shop Steward for Local #773, and as an usher for both St. Peter's R.C. Church, Coplay, PA and St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Havre De Grace, MD.
Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Constance E. wife of George Hall of Elkton, MD. Granddaughters, Ann wife of David Moxey of Perryville, MD, and Nancy wife of Richard Mangino of Wyckoff, NJ. Great-grandson, Ryan Michael Mangino. Great-granddaughter, Kelsey Ann wife of Derek Pearce, and a great-great-grandson Levi Pearce and fiancee, Patricia Ditmore of Aberdeen, MD. He was predeceased by a brother, William J., and sister, Helene Svitilla.
Services: The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 12, 2023, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. all at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre De Grace, MD, 20178. Interment with Military Honors will follow on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at the Slatedale Cemetery, Slatedale, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067. Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
