John "Jack" L. Porambo

John "Jack" L. Porambo , 82, of Princeton Avenue, Palmerton, Pennsylvania, died suddenly late Friday evening, December 18, 2020, in his home.  He was the husband of Margaret A. (Gieniec) Porambo since June 23, 1962.  Born in Coaldale, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late John "Dooley" and Stephanie (Gajewski) Porambo.

Jack was employed as an instructor and head of the English Department for the Parkland Area School District, retiring in 1996.  Previously, he taught English at Slatington and Marion High School, Tamaqua.  In his early years, Jack worked in the sporting goods department at Shea's Hardware, and Hager Furniture Store, both of Palmerton. And, he was a self-employed landscaper.  He was a 1956 graduate of Marion High School, LasSalle College, Philadelphia, and the University of Scranton with his Master Degree.  An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton, he volunteered in several capacities including development director for festival, parish council, a member of the board, and former substitute teacher for St. John Neumann Regional School, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and a former custodian/caretaker of parish cemeteries, and Meal on Wheel's Volunteer. Jack was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, was a former volunteer PA State Conservation Office, a member of the Palmerton Rod and Gun Club, West Penn Archery Club, the Palmerton Lions Club, and was an avid Notre Dame, Duke and NY Yankees Fan.

Survivors: Wife. Daughter, Ann K. wife of John Luciani of York.  Son, John J. and wife Cheryl Porambo of Roswell, GA.  5 grandchildren, Kristen, Angela, John III, Macey, and John "Jake".  4 great-grandchildren.  Sister, Mrs. Barbara A. Polakovic of Walnutport.  Numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 12:00noon Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.  Call, 11:00 a.m. - 12noon, Tuesday, in the church.  Interment will follow at the Parish's New Cemetery, Stoney Ridge Road, Palmerton.  Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
