John J. Mcgurrin

John Joseph McGurrin of Allentown, formerly of Walnutport, died at the age of 85 on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital  - Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Twp.

Born on December 18, 1932 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph A. McGurrin and the late Anna Mae (Hoffman) McGurrin-Theis. He was the husband of the late Sandra J. (Hrapsky) McGurrin who passed away in 2005.

John was a graduate of Kutztown University earning a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. He was a teacher of Spanish and German at Raub Middle School and William Allen High School for 30 years before retiring in 1988.  He served his country honorably as a Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1961 during the Korean War. John was a member of American Legion Post #16 - Slatington, VFW Post#7293 - Egypt, and NOVA Ambulance Corp, N. Whitehall Twp. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Cherryville.

Surviving are his daughter, Kris, wife of Michael H. Rooney of Allentown, PA, and grandsons, Michael and Matthew. He was predeceased by sister, Patricia A. Arnold, brother, George W. Theis, and step-father, George W. Theis, Sr.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM, Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA 18067.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.  Interment with Military Honors, Indianland Cemetery Association, Cherryville, PA.
