John P. Vitek

John P. Vitek , 81, of Harmony Drive, Hazleton, Luzerne County, formerly of Nor-Bath Blvd, Northampton, died suddenly Monday evening, June 19, 2023, in his home. He was the husband of Evelyn L. (Babish) Vitek since April 2, 2016, and the late Jean H. (Breiner) Vitek who passed in 2013. Born in Lansford, Carbon County, he was a son of the late John P. and Helen (Haslego) Vitek.

John was employed as a supervisor for the Durkee-French Corp, Bethlehem. Later, he worked in maintenance and grounds keeping for Southmoore Golf Course, Bath. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hazleton, and formerly attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Bath. A 1959 graduate of the Lansford High School, he then served in the Navy, Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam Era, achieving rank of AX2 (E-5). John thoroughly enjoyed golf, and also liked to hunt and fish.

Survivors : wife. daughters, Debora M. wife of Brian Vandergrift of Northampton, Pamela J. wife of Luke Heist of Allentown. son, John P., Jr. and wife Doreen of Danielsville. daughters, Tracey A. Fertally and companion David Steidle of Jim Thorpe, Laura A. Banta of Union Dale. son, Scott A. and wife Glory Fertally of Broomfield, CO. 12 Grand children. 22 great grandchildren. sister, Joan Smith of NJ. nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard.
