Joseph S. Sommer, Jr., 48 of Northampton, PA. died Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Born September 9, 1967 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Sommer, Sr. and the late Helen (Yandersits) Sommer. He was the husband of Alison L. (Thomas) Sommer, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage last September 7, 2015.
Joe was a 1985 graduate of Northampton High School who went on to work for H.T. Lyons Co., Allentown where he was employed as Project Manager and has worked there for the last 30 years. He was the head coach for the Northampton Athletic Association Elementary Wrestlers; Vice President of N.A.W.C. and former Board Member of V.E.W.L.-Valley Elementary Wrestling League; Member of Local Union #420 Steamfitters, Philadelphia, PA; Also a member of the Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club, Northampton. An Avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed horseshoes, quoits, grilling, and being a jokester. He enjoyed long rides on the Harley with his friends, and volunteered large amounts of time giving back to his family, friends, and community. Surviving along with wife Alison are son, Austin J. Sommer of Northampton, PA, brother, Michael D. Sommer and wife Mandy of Northampton, PA, sister, Danielle M. wife of Daniel Roland of Danielsville, PA. He was predeceased by a son, Brandon M. Sommer in April 2012.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, 1324 Newport Avenue Northampton, PA. 18067 with the Rev. Patrick Lamb officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA. 18067, and Tues June 1, 2016 in the church from 9:15am to 10:15 am prior to the Mass.
