The Lehigh Valley has lost a motorcycle legend as Julius P. Gomez Jr passed away peacefully at his home in Whitehall, PA on February 15th 2022. He joins his wife, Leona (Minar) with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Julius, born in May of 1931 to Helen (Shifchok) and Julius F Gomez, was the eldest of six children. Years later, even after retiring in his fifties from the Bethlehem Steel Coke Works Division he never stayed still for very long. He loved traveling, especially taking trips to Canada to spend summers camping, boating and fishing with his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars and racing snowmobiles but his lifelong passion was motorcycles, which was not just a hobby, but his lifestyle.

Julius was a founding member of several local motorcycle clubs during his lifetime dating as far back as the 1950's. These clubs included The Wolfpack, Phantom Riders, Zinc City MC, Cycle Gypsies, and Gypsy Sportsman.MC. He owned everything from Indians to Triumphs, but Harley Davidson Motorcycles were his favorite and always held a special place in his heart. He spent many weekends tuning and racing his drag bikes, and was well known around the track, not just for his winning bikes but most often for his engine building skills. Sometimes Julius would even build engines on request for his competitors. His AMA District 6 number one plate still sits alongside his Drag Race Heavyweight Division trophy. He repaired and restored countless motorcycles throughout his life, but Julius especially enjoyed sharing his love of motorcycles with his friends (too many to mention here, but not forgotten) and passing that motorcycling tradition on to his grandchildren and great grandsons.

He is survived by his daughters Helen and Ann (Joseph Kline), his brother Tony (Rose) and sister, Helen as well as his grandchildren: Raymond, Michael, Christopher, Stephanie, Kyle, Cory and great grandchildren: Dylan, Devin, Shane, Gavin, Hope, and Colt Julius. He was preceded in death by wife Leona, daughter Susan, and brothers Lewis, Emmanuel, and Joseph.

A service of remembrance will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday February 26, 2022 at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA 18067. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
