Karoline Pohanka

Karoline (Flasser) Pohanka , 87, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, November 14, 2019, at the Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, with Compassus Hospice.  She was the loving wife and longtime caretaker of the late Franz Pohanka who passed in 1999, and they were married almost 50 years.  Born in Leitersdorf, Steiermark, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Franz and Johanna (Urbanitsch) Flasser.

Karoline and her late husband immigrated to the United States on January 28, 1962.  She worked for Union Carbide and later retired from Hebrew National Foods, New York, NY, after 22 years.  She attended Salem St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, and was a past member of both the GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club, and the Palmerton Lions Club.

Survivors: loving daughter, Karoline wife of Kilian Kormann of Kunkletown, PA.  Grandson, Franz and wife Tammy (Dunbar) Kormann of Forest Inn, PA.  Beloved great-granddaughters, Kayla and Erika Kormann.  Sisters-in-law, Resi Flasser, Paula Flasser, Elli Flasser, Mitzi Gutmeier, Emmi Pohanka, and over 80 nieces and nephews, all in Austria.  She was predeceased by sisters, Johanna, and Veronika, and, brothers, Karl, Hans, Josef, Franz, Alois, Kajetan, Engelbert, Heinrich, and Wilhelm, as well as brother-in-law, Karl Pohanka.

Services: 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.  Call, 4:00-6:00 p.m., on Tuesday in the funeral home.  Private Entombment, Prospect Cemetery and Mauseoleum, East Stroudsburg, PA.  Online Condolences may be left for the family at: www.schislerfuneralhomes.com .
