Margaret Kratzer, 94 of Walnutport, PA passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community, Nazareth, PA. Born August 15, 1926 in Coplay, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Haftl and the late Rosa (Buritsch) Haftl and the wife of the late Charles S. Kratzer, Jr.
Margaret dedicated her life to caring for her family and loved ones. She shared her talents and signature baked goods with all those in her life, serving as a baking and pastry instructor, as well as supplying gourmet desserts to the former Barnes and Noble Café in Whitehall for many years. She also contributed baking columns to Blue Mountain Town & Country Gazette. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Northampton County, and a volunteer at Gracedale County Home, Nazareth, PA.
She filled her life with frequent entertaining and activism, serving as Democratic Committee member, campaign volunteer, and census taker for her county and township. In her early years she was employed by the former Deeville Blouse Factory, Danielsville, PA, where she wrote entertaining and humorous columns for the local International Ladies Garment Workers Union publication. She is remembered by many for her spirited entertaining, filling lives with her witty humor, infectious laughter, sumptuous dinners and gourmet pastries. Also known for her generosity, she and her husband provided daily meals for an ailing neighbor and his family for three decades.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Berner, wife of J. Clarke Berner, deceased, of Walnutport, PA; Margaret, wife of Theodore Colarusso of Allentown, PA, and Elizabeth, wife of Shane Reph of Moore Township, PA and Pittsburgh, PA, and son Charles Kratzer, III and wife Debra of Highland Beach, FL and Lexington KY. Seven Grandchildren, Theodore A., Jessica, Nathan, Zachary, Noah, and Alexandra, and four Great-Grandchildren, Olivia, Nico, Lucianna, and Logan. She was predeceased by her son, John F. Kratzer in 2012 and grandson, Michael in 2018.
A graveside service will be held privately for the family. Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA. 18067 has been entrusted with her care and services.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Stroke Association, St Luke's Hospice, or Soldiers' Angels, who provide aid, baked goods, comfort, and resources to the military, veterans, and their families all c/o the funeral home.
