Marion Louise Bohunicky, age 96, of Treichlers, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. She was born in Palmerton, PA on May 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Graver) Mendle. Marion was the widow of Sgt. Joseph Bohunicky who died in 2007 and were married 58 years.
Marion spent her childhood growing up in Palmerton. In her youth, she was a Campfire Girl for many years and spent summers at Camp Riker, NJ. Marion graduated from Palmerton High School, Class of 1944 where she was the lead flag twirler and performed at town parades and football games. She was a member of the Palmerton Historical Society. During World War II, she attended Drexel and Temple Universities while working at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in their Drafting Division. Marion later worked for Western Electric as a technician.
Following WWII, Marion married the love of her life from Palmerton, Sgt. Joseph Bohunicky at St. Catherine's Cathedral in Allentown, PA. They owned and operated the historic Treichlers Hotel from 1949 to 2007, also known as Treichlers Cafe. Marion was passionately devoted to her Christian faith, her family, and friends. She was an avid reader and storyteller of family history. She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Northampton, PA and always had great praise for Pastor Msgr. Thomas Koons.
Marion is survived by her sons Joseph Bohunicky, Jr. of Treichlers, Stephen Bohunicky of Danielsville, Brian and wife Teddi Bohunicky of Cary, NC; daughter Dolores (Dee) Kalb wife of deceased Robert Kalb of Allentown, PA. She has three grandchildren, Dr. Kyle, Stephanie, Jamie and great granddaughters, Caylee and Cecelia. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Avenue, Northampton, PA 18067 has been entrusted with her care and arrangements.
