Marvin M. Wright, 78 of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Northampton. Born October 5, 1939 in Northampton, he was the son of the late Martin and Eva (Getz) Wright and husband of the late Margaret M. "Peggy" (Templeton) Wright who passed away in 2015.

He was a 1957 graduate of Northampton High School where he excelled in football and track. After graduating he was employed by Universal Atlas Cement Co. - Division of US Steel, Northampton Plant. In 1967 he was the youngest individual ever elected to a full time position as District Representative of the United Cement, Lime & Gypsum Workers, District Council No. 1. He served in that position until 1980 when he was elected as an International Vice President UCLGA Workers International Union. In 1987 he cofounded the Independent Workers of North America, merging with the Paper workers in 1991 and United Steelworkers in 2004. He retired in 2008. In 2013 he participated in a trial program for a new cancer medication. This successful trial led to approval by the FDA and has helped many cancer patients.

Survivors: He is survived by son, Timothy Wright and wife Ruthann of Palmyra, MO, daughter, Kathleen wife of James Brougher of Lehighton, and son, Mark Wright and wife Lisa of Hellertown, grandchildren, Rachele, Allison, Adam, Albert, Tyler, Maeann, and great grandson, Jackson. He was was predeceased by brothers, Albert R. Wright and Ary R. Wright.

Services: The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 and 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 2, 2017 both at Schisler Funeral Home, Inc., 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, PA, 18067 followed by an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday Nov. 2, 2017 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 22nd St. & Washington Ave., Northampton, PA. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the church memorial fund or Dr Nair and Dr. Scillia's cancer research at Lehigh Valley Hospital/Muhlenberg Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
