Mary E. Ernst

With sparkling blue eyes, signature lipstick and an ever-present smile, Mary Elizabeth Ernst, 84, of Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, PA went home to the Lord on July 3, 2023. She was the beloved wife of M. Taylor Ernst, with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 23, 2023. Along with her husband, she is survived by her two daughters: Kimberly Ernst-Ganey (Tim) of Allentown and Lynne (Ernst) Piotrowski (William) of Williamsport; her grandchildren, Laurie (Ganey) Pash (Byron) and Jennifer Ganey; and her brother George Shipps (Marian) of Appleton, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her stepmother Minnie Belle (Shipps) Poleto, her brother Marvin Shipps and her sister Gladys Warwick.

Born in Ridley Park, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Marvin and Margaret (Stehl) Shipps. She was a graduate of Ridley Park High School, class of 1957, where she played field hockey and served as captain of the varsity basketball team. In 1961, she received a B.A. from Bucknell University and went on to teach elementary students in various states.

An active member in her faith communities, Mary was a grateful two-time cancer survivor who enjoyed Bible studies and volunteering at libraries. She was also a staunch advocate for those with mental illness. Her unwavering compassion and positivity afforded her a unique sensitivity and understanding towards family, friends and all she met along the way.

In addition to time spent with family and friends, Mary also enjoyed reading, swimming, traveling, singing and especially loved partaking in the arts and nature, whether it be painting, attending musical performances or spending time in her flower garden.

Services: A private visitation and service for family will be held with arrangements being handled by Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home.
