Mary E. (Galgoci) Kohler, 98, formerly of Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, died peacefully, Sunday morning, May 22, 2016, at Sacred Heart Villa, Reading. She was a former member of Sisters of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, Reading, for 22 years, followed by a faithful marriage of 24 years to the late Albert J. Kohler who passed in April of 2015. Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Mikulka) Galgoci.
Mary worked as a nurse anesthetist for many years. Her career began at St. Mary''s Hospital, Athens, Georgia. She then transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, and finished at The Palmerton Hospital, for 16 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member, lector, and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton. Mary was a MSC Lay Associate since 1995: known as Sister Helen, she professed her final vows as an MSC Sister in 1942. Mary also served in Sacred Heart, Norristown. After 26 years as an MSC Sister, God called Mary to serve in another walk of life. Mary was a 1943 graduate of Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, Allentown, with an RN Degree. In 1944, she obtained her CRNA from Sacred Heart, Allentown, and her BS in Education from Villanova College. Mary was a life member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, IL, an associate member of M.S.C., Reading, and the PA Nurse Association, Harrisburg.
Survivors: Sisters, Mrs. Sarah Yuskanich of Reading, Mrs. Helen Michalik of Summit Hill. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Sylvester, Ernest, Samuel and Charles, and her sister, Sister Catherine Anne M.S.C.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071. Call, 9:30-11:00 a.m., Friday in the church. Interment will be at the Parish''s Old Cemetery, 3rd Street, Palmerton. Arrangements are by the Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.
