Mary V. Madar, 95, formerly of Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, died Thursday evening, July 21, 2016, at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bangor, Pennsylvania. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Madar who passed in 2000. Born in Nova Dedina, former Czechoslovakia, she was a daughter of the late Jan and Rozalia (Uhnak) Vydra.
Mary was a volunteer at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton, and the Palmerton Hospital. She was one of a group of women who made afghans for the veterans and the homeless. An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton, she enjoyed cooking and baking for various church functions, and especially for the annual Community Festival. In her early years, she was a member of the church's Slovak Choir and performed in the Slovak plays in the church hall. Hard work was what Mary believed kept her strong and allowed her to live a long and healthy life.
Survivors: Daughters, Maryann R. wife of Nicholas LaPenna of East Stroudsburg, Irene A. wife of Richard Lyttle of Chesapeake City, Maryland. 2 grandchildren, Christine and Steven. 3 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Lucas, and Maddox. Sisters, Anka wife of Josef Novak of Gandova, Slovakia, Rozka wife of Misko Sebo of Slovakia. Brother, Josef and wife Anka Vydra of Nova Dedina, Slovakia. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Jelka Senci.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, Pennsylvania 18071. Call, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, prior to services at Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071. Interment follows burial, at the Parish's New Cemetery, Stoney Ridge Road, Palmerton.
