Mary L. Smale-Parkkila, 84, of Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, formerly of Northampton, died early Friday morning, March 18, 2016, at Blue Mountain Health Systems-Palmerton Campus. She was the wife of Emery E. Parkkila since June 24, 1995, and the late Richard D. Smale who passed in 1991. Born in Moscow, Lackawanna County, she was a daughter of the late Fred A. and Ruth D. (Brown) Alt.
Mary was owner/operator of the former Cement Central Hotel, Newport Avenue, for 18 years, retiring in 1988. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, who enjoyed knitting, crocheting many garments for the entire family.
Survivors: husband, daughters, Linda Falstich of Northampton; Michele wife of Rodney White, all of Northampton; Judy Edelman of Bethlehem; Cheryl Christman and fiance Joseph Talianek of Whitehall; Patricia Gruver and fiance Anthony Jordan of Coopersburg. Sons, Gregory S. Smale of Allentown; Bill and wife Jean Parkkila; James and wife Mary Parkkila, all of Center Valley. 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Minnie Sweet, Dorothy Hutchins, Better Keiser, and brother Harold Alt.
Services: Private Entombment, Grandview Cemetary, Walbert Avenue, Allentown. Arrangements, Campton Funeral Home, Palmerton.
