Myrtle S. Haydt

Myrtle S. Haydt (Tootie), 101, of Palmerton, PA, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Legend of Allentown in Macungie, PA. Born June 22, 1925, in Palmerton, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Jones and Ellen (Green) Jones. She was the wife of the late Vernon D. Haydt.

Her lifestyle was simple. When asked how she lived to age 100, she replied: I never drank, never smoked, and walked several miles every day. Most of Palmerton passed her everyday on those walks.

Myrtle was a sewing machine operator by trade, working primarily at Natalie’s Fashions in Palmerton. However, her skills and loves lay in other areas. She was an accomplished quilter, part of a quilt circle at St Johns UCC Church, Palmerton, PA, a crochet enthusiast, and an embroidery artist. She attended Faith Alive Church, Bowmanstown, PA. She also loved feeding friends and family traditional homemade Pennsylvania Dutch meals and desserts. The family believes she baked the world’s best apple pie. To Judy, Don, Pat, and Rhett she was ‘Mom’ the best ever parent to the very end. To her grandkids she was ‘Grandmom,’ warm, fun, loving and always available. To the great grands she was ‘Nana,’ full of hugs and homemade treats.

Survivors: She is survived by her daughters, Judith wife of Donald Schwartz of Bonita Springs (Estero), FL, and Patricia wife of Rhett Hernandez of Alexandria, VA; 4 grandchildren; Karen wife of Gene Durigan of Lehighton, PA, Matthew and wife Jenn of New Hope, PA, Sarah wife of Rob Zolla of San Antonio, TX, and Mark Hernandez; Five great- grandchildren; Larissa, Natalie, Eva, Tyson, and Leo; special niece Jerry, along with many nieces and nephews. Two great-grandsons predeceased her, Gus, and Hank. Two sisters, Melba, Lenora, and five brothers, William, David, Landis, Clifford, and Thomas predeceased her.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA has been entrusted with her care and arrangements.
