The Family and Friends of Olga "Baba" Kravetz, are mourning her passing at the age of 89, on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Born to parents Wasily Fedorishen and Anna (Hurman) Fedorishen, she lived her whole life in Palmerton. She married Charles Kravetz in 1948, and together they had 3 children. She is preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Walter Kovalenko, Alexander Fedorishen, and Edward Fedorishen; as well as by her husband, Charles Kravetz, and their son, Charles Kravetz Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie Wentz (Clark) of Palmerton, and Debra Fishman (Gregg) of Sacramento, CA, as well as four granddaughters, Amanda and Alyssa Wentz, and Jayna and Danielle Fishman. For many years she and her mother ran a corner grocery store and lunch counter on the corner of Edgemont Avenue and Fireline Road. They served many local patrons and businesses. The establishment became a focal point for the neighborhood, until it closed in 1971. Baba played an integral role in the lives of her family, cared for her grandchildren and cooked amazing family meals. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, watching food channel shows, and anything to do with recipes and food. She was always interested in new foods and every conversation consisted of at least, "what did you have good to eat?" and, "how was it made?". She loved ethnic foods from her Ukrainian background, and was a gifted home cook. She was known especially for her pierogis and halupkies. She could warm everyone up with her homemade Paprikash Soup – a recipe passed down from her own mother. Mom, "Baba", was always looking for the bright side of things, even in the hardest moments. She was strong, caring, and loving, and she passed those traits down to her daughters and granddaughters.
