Paul "Bill" W. Papay
, 75, of Lehigh Avenue, Palmerton, Pennsylvania, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, February 14, 2017, at the VNA Hospice House St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Township. He was the husband of Carol L. (Costenbader) Papay since January 13, 1962. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Paul W., Sr. and Mary S. (Lazar) Papay.
Bill was a self-employed barber in Palmerton for over 40 years, retiring in 2012. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palmerton. A 1959 graduate of the Palmerton High School, he later graduated from the Allentown Barber School. Bill honorably served his country in the US Navy, Vietnam Era. He was a longtime member, past president, and avid bowler of the Sokol Hall, Palmerton. He was a member and avid bowler of the Palmerton Hungarian Club, and an avid golfer at the former Blue Ridge Country Club, Palmerton. Bill was a member and financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus, Lafayette Council #2522, Palmerton. He enjoyed volunteering as both a football and a baseball coach, was a member of the Palmerton Booster Club, and he donated for years to the Miller Blood Bank, and volunteered for the Palmerton Meals on Wheels Program. He was a member of the St. Luke's Hospital Zipper Club, and both the Palmerton VFW, and the American Legion. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors:
Wife, Carol. Daughter, Kristi P. wife of Robert Thomas of Palmerton. Sons, William P. and wife Angela Papay of Walnutport, Anthony T. and wife Jo-Ann Papay, Michael J. and wife Clare Papay, Scott D. and wife Jean Papay, all of Palmerton. 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, and Thomas.
Services:
Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 243 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071. Call, 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday.
Interment will be Private.
