Philip J. Binder , born March 23, 1958, passed away on January 7, 2021 in the presence of his family, at the age of " 63 ".

Surviving are his wife Carla, and their children, John and Sarah; his beloved dog Maggie; his mother-in-law Alice Frable; his in-laws Sara and Doug, their children Joelle and Evan; his sisters, Fran, Debbie and Monica; and his extended family and friends.  He was the son of the late Philip C. Binder and Frances R. (Kaplan) Binder.

Phil began his military career in 1981 enlisting in the US Army.  He enlisted in the US Air Force Reserve in 1991, and trained in the electrical craftsman specialty.  He was assigned to the 913th Civil Engineer Squadron, Willow Grove Air Reserve Station, PA.  He served with the 913th for 16 years until the unit was deactivated in 2007.  He then enlisted in the 166th Civil Engineer Squadron, Delaware Air National Guard, New Castle, Delaware in 2007, serving as an Electrical Craftsman and Supervisor.  His deployments included, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Kuwait in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.  He contributed to humanitarian missions in Honduras and Guatemala well as construction projects supporting local communities in New Mexico, Arizona, Hawaii, and California.

In addition to proudly serving his country, Phil served the Palmerton community where he lived his entire life.  He was a 1977 graduate of the Palmerton High School. He served as President of the Carbon Builders Association while operating his own business, PJB Home Improvements.  He was elected to the Borough Council and served on the Civil Service Commission.  In his retirement, he found joy in building his "Taj" where he welcomed working on projects with friends and family.

In his own words, " I'm no one without my wonderful friends ".  You could always count on him to have a hot cup of coffee waiting.

Services: Graveside Services with Military Honors, 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021, Sacred Heart Old Cemetery, 3rd Street, Palmerton.  Phil will be laid to rest with his beloved grandfather, John Kaplan.
