Robert P. Markwich
May 21, 1929 — April 17, 2018
Robert P. Markwich, 88 of Center Valley passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family in Lehigh Valley Hospice. Born on May 21, 1929 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard Markwich and the late Elizabeth (Blaker) Markwich. He was the husband to Winifred (Shafer) Markwich, celebrating 66 years of marriage this past March.
After graduating from Allen High School in 1947, Robert spent a couple of summers in Ocean City, NJ. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and served as central control operator in a B-29 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant after 4 years. He spent the next 20 years in the insurance business; 16 years with Metropolitan and 4 with Prudential, 18 of which as an Administrative Manager. Robert was very active in the Allentown Elks Lodge #130 as a former Exalted Ruler, overseeing the Elks charity committee. In 1976, he opened his own business called Marky's Office and was successful for 21 years until he decided to retire. Robert loved golfing, boating, flying and spending time with his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Winifred, he is survived by daughter, Patrice S., wife of William Strohl of Cherryville, PA, son, Todd D. Markwich & companion Joanne Hamlin of Green Castle, PA, sister, Gloria Perlis of Stroudsburg, PA, brother-in law, George Shafer, granddaughters, Stephanie, wife of Charles Powell and Nadine Lilly and companion Andy Rinehimer, great-grandson, Hunter Frick and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Markwich.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM followed by a 6:30 PM funeral service on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA 18067.
