Robert D. Nelson

Robert D. Nelson, 81 of Northampton-Allen Twsp., PA died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 25, 1936 in Muncie, Indiana, he was the son of the late Claude M. Nelson and the late Elsie E. (May) Nelson. He was the husband of Mary G. (Troxell) Nelson with whom he shared 20 years of marriage this February 14, 2018.

Robert served as a Master Sergeant for the US Air Force for over 20 years serving through both the Korean and 3 tours in the Vietnam War before retiring in 1977. After retiring, he was recommissioned for active duty and later retired to Hawaii in 1995.

Survivors: Surviving along with his wife Mary are daughters, Debra wife of William Riggs of Orlando, FL; Diana June and companion Walt Apfel of Weirsdale, FL; step-daughters, Claudia wife of Clayton Bonnell, Fairfax, VA; Carolyn wife of James Koontz, Ft. Collins, CO; Cathy wife of Michael Rawlings, Bethlehem, PA; 10 grand children; 8 great grand children. He was predeceased by a son, Robert D. Nelson, Jr. in 1992 along with three sisters, Mary Ellen, Margie, and Bonnie and two brothers, James and Claude William "Bill".

Services: A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Willow Green Community Clubhouse in Northampton, PA and the Rev. Dr. Mark Crumpler officiated.  Future internment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave. Northampton, PA 18067.
