Rodney E. Markulics, 76, of Bushkill Township, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital – Anderson Campus. Born on September 9, 1943 in Allentown, he was the son of the late Frank and Dora (Hescox) Markulics. He and his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline F. (Bartholomew) Markulics, were married on June 10, 1967 .
After graduating in 1961 from Northampton High School, he worked for his father at the Alliance Coal Company, Northampton. He then received an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968 from Penn State where he was President of the Keystone Club. Rodney was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bath and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4282. He worked for Met Ed/First Energy in Bangor, East Stroudsburg, and Easton, for thirty years in the Electrical Engineering Department and as a supervisor in the Line Department before retiring.
He loved woodworking, making things, and projects of all kinds for his family and friends. He enjoyed sports, especially wrestling (grandsons and son's). He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Since the onset of his illness in January 2019, he loved to watch Friends on television during the day and M*A*S*H in the evening. He also loved Facetiming with his grandsons Raymond, serving in the US Air Force, and Parker, serving in the US Army. He loved when he was blessed with his two great grandchildren, who were his absolute joy of his life during his difficult journey.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Ray and his wife Melanie Markulics of Bushkill Township, daughter, MaryBeth Markulics-West, wife of James West of upper Nazareth Township, Grandchildren, Cayleah wife of Eric Bach, Raymond Markulics, Richard Markulics, Celseah Markulics, Morgan Smith, Parker Smith, Ally West, Megan West, and Alton West, great grandsons, Caegan Richard Bach, and Conlan Rodney Bach, brothers, Ronald Markulics of Whitehall and Michael and his wife Cherlyn Markulics of Tennessee, sisters, Jean Farkas of Slatington, Jacquelyn wife of Joseph Kiss of Northampton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Cheryl Compton.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM , followed by an 11:00 AM funeral service, all at the Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home, 211 East Center Street, Nazareth, PA 18064 . Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Seemsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Corps in care of the funeral home.
