It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Salvatore “Sonny” Mistretta of California Maryland, who peacefully left this world on January 30, 2026, at the age of 90. Sonny was born on November 8, 1935, in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, where his roots took hold and grew deep.

Sonny dedicated much of his life to the world of boxing, serving as a boxing match maker, manager, trainer, and leaving an indelible mark on the industry. His passion for the sport was clear to all who knew him, and he could often be found sharing stories of his experiences and the fighters he admired. He had a unique ability to illuminate the spirit of determination and resilience that boxing embodies.

He married his beautiful wife Eleanor in 1961, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of 17, offering wisdom and kindness to all. Sonny’s love for his family was evident in every gathering and every shared moment. These ties to his family remained ever-present in his heart, shaping the man he became.

In this time of sorrow, let us also remember the joy Sonny brought to our lives. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, a reminder of the love that binds us all together.
